Whole School House System

South Bersted operates a house system, with adults and children organised into four houses. Every child wears a coloured shirt during PE lessons representing their house.  The house system is focused on a positive behavior approach.

When developing a new house system, during the 2017 – 2018 academic year, the School Council were actively involved and asked the school community to vote on the house names and create the images that represented each of the house.

After deciding on the winning designs, the School Council wanted to create each of the logos as a single puzzle piece so that when the four logos come together they create the whole image: The South Bersted Team.

The School Council felt that this was clear represented by the following passage from Corinthians:

  1. 1 Corinthians 12:17-20

If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be?  If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?  But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.  If they were all one part, where would the body be?  As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

Earning house points

There are many activities running through the school year for students to contribute to their house. Each house point awarded to children automatically adds to the house total and these are recorded through our Class Dojo system. For the large events, such as Sports Day points are awarded based on finishing positions.

At the end of each half term, the winning team is announced. The winning house then participates in an enrichment afternoon, which is organised by adults across the school. The enrichment activities have included:

  • Pond dipping,
  • Coding,
  • Baking
  • Camp fire songs,
  • Lego,
  • Circuits,
  • Team Building.
